The gateway to ready player ONE! Varjo XR-3

I remember trying out VR for the first time around the 90s. It was cool it was crazy. Voodoo was releasing GPU (video cards) then. Flash forward to a few years ago I tried the highest end VR set I could get my hands on. I believe it was at a Microcenter outside of Philli. It was cool but I had one problem. Screen door made the pixel looks like I was back in front of a CRT monitor or my old Trinitron SONY 32inch fat boy tv set. Screen door is happens when you can see the darkness between each pixel. It is called screen door because you can see the same thing happen if you press your face up on Grand Ma screen door while looking through it. This is minus a shoe being thrown at you for distorting the mesh afterwards. As a CGI consumer and creator I knew we were getting close to Ready Play ONE but, the eye tech would have to improve.

Here is an important step to realizing this. If you grew up in the arcades like I did then you know all about the 16 bit war! You also Know that we haven’t really had that big of a jump also. It is almost like we are reliving those times with people not realizing it. We had the jump in resolution, 3d, texture/shaders. I think we are following this pattern once more. The 4k and 8K crazy is upon us now. Yet the VR headsets are lagging behind this.

The Varjo XR3 is expensive and I could argue it is worth it. It is the first VR head set that I could see replacing my 4 monitor work station setup. Now If Wacom could jump the club with VR wacom’s. I know technically I could just use Varjo’s pass through tech for an AR out put on top of my Wacom. To get an Idea of what I’m talking about check this out below.

Above is the comparison video of the Varjo XR-3 and the HoloLens 2. Look at how the Varjo fills the field of view. Look at how limited the HoloLens is also. For a long time the PS VR had the best screen door reduction but screen door is almost none existent here. This is truly the first step into Player Ready ONE.
